Sr. Data Operations Analyst
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Data Operations Analyst is responsible for the inbound data pipelines that bring partner and client files into our client’s record-keeping systems. The role operates SQL Server, SSIS, cron-scheduled batch jobs, and legacy VB scripts to clean, validate, and load partner data so it is ready for downstream platforms.
As a senior team member, this position works without daily supervision, mentors junior Data Operations Analysts, and partners with the Data & Analytics organization on platform-modernization initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cleans, validates, and transforms inbound client and partner files, including eligibility, claims, and contributions, using SQL and SSIS.
- Ensures data conforms to record-keeping platform requirements.
- Designs, deploys, and maintains SSIS packages that move data from partner formats into the client’s canonical data layer.
- Operates, monitors, and improves cron-scheduled batch jobs across the data-integration environment.
- Maintains and modernizes legacy VB and VB.NET scripts that support data-operations workflows.
- Monitors pipeline quality and reliability, including alert response, root-cause analysis, and post-incident remediation.
- Mentors and supports Data Operations Analysts through code reviews and process guidance.
- Partners with the Data & Analytics organization to migrate manual file processing to automated and observable data ingestion using Microsoft Fabric.
- Documents data-integration patterns, runbooks, and remediation procedures.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent professional experience may substitute.
Experience
- Minimum three years of hands-on data operations, ETL development, or data-integration experience.
- Demonstrated production experience with SQL Server, including T-SQL, stored procedures, and query optimization.
- Demonstrated production experience designing, deploying, and maintaining SSIS packages.
- Experience operating batch-scheduling environments such as cron, SQL Server Agent, or an equivalent platform.
Technical Skills
- SQL Server, including T-SQL, stored procedures, and query optimization.
- SSIS package design, deployment, and maintenance.
- Batch scheduling and job orchestration using cron, SQL Server Agent, or an equivalent platform.
- VB and VB.NET script maintenance.
- Data-validation, reconciliation, and quality-monitoring techniques.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Healthcare, fintech, insurance, or other regulated-industry data-operations experience.
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, or modern cloud-data platforms.
- Familiarity with Python or PowerShell for automation.
- Experience supporting the migration of legacy ETL workloads to cloud-native pipelines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge
- A regulated-industry data domain, such as healthcare, financial services, or insurance.
- Production data-integration patterns, including file-based ingestion, ETL, and batch reconciliation.
- SQL Server internals sufficient to diagnose and optimize production data-integration workloads.
- HIPAA-regulated data handling and PHI security boundaries.
Skills
- Writes production-grade SQL and SSIS packages with attention to performance and recoverability.
- Authors clear runbooks, postmortems, and migration documentation.
- Clearly communicates technical risks and tradeoffs to engineering and product partners.
Abilities
- Works independently on complex data-operations workloads without daily supervision.
- Mentors and provides technical guidance to less-experienced staff.
- Maintains operational discipline across recurring batch and ad hoc data workloads in a regulated environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is remote within the United States. Work is performed in a standard office or home-office environment. The role requires extended periods of computer-based work, including reading data on screens, typing, and participating in remote video meetings.
