The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team responsible for building and delivering modern, scalable software solutions that support critical business needs.

In this role, you will manage, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers while driving the design, development, and delivery of reliable, high-quality applications and services. You will help shape engineering practices, improve development processes, and ensure the team delivers solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business objectives.

This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced people leader with a strong technical background. Success requires proven experience leading and growing engineering teams, combined with hands-on technical leadership across modern software-development practices, architectures, and cloud technologies.

You will help establish technical direction, promote engineering excellence, and collaborate closely with product, operations, IT, and business stakeholders.

This role is based in Seattle, WA, and operates on a hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Contribution

  • Contribute to and participate in reviews of software solution designs and architectural approaches.
  • Attend regular team standups and participate in backlog-grooming activities.
  • Help expand and mature Agile practices across the software engineering organization.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams focused on delivering well-designed, end-to-end technology solutions.
  • Serve as a technology consultant to the organization by recommending technology and process improvements that increase productivity, agility, and business value.

Technical Leadership

  • Collaborate with leadership to develop and maintain policies and procedures based on industry best practices.
  • Evaluate and introduce modern tools, technologies, and solutions.
  • Advise leadership on decisions involving people, processes, tools, and technology.
  • Establish and track metrics that measure system value, stability, performance, and availability.
  • Manage the complete software development lifecycle for engineering solutions.
  • Promote scalable architecture, maintainable code, effective testing, and reliable delivery practices.
  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders to translate organizational needs into practical software solutions.

People Management

  • Communicate the software engineering vision and strategy to the team and other departments.
  • Review team members’ work and provide ongoing technical direction, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Recruit, select, train, develop, and manage software engineering team members.
  • Establish goals, provide performance feedback, and support professional development.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry practices, sharing relevant knowledge with the team.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous-improvement-oriented engineering culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated success managing software engineering teams focused on custom application development and the support and enhancement of critical enterprise systems.
  • At least five years of software development and application-management experience.
  • At least eight years of progressively responsible experience with information technology and application systems.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management abilities.
  • Experience with modern software engineering technologies, tools, and development practices.
  • Experience with cloud-based application development, deployment, scalability, optimization, security, and monitoring.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies and delivery approaches.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with microservices-based architectures.
  • Exposure to machine learning or AI-enabled applications.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with enterprise integration platforms such as MuleSoft.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Power BI.
  • Experience developing applications with C# and the Microsoft technology ecosystem.
