Senior Mobile Engineer - Kotlin and Cross-Platform

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Senior Mobile Engineer to join a small, highly collaborative team that owns its products end to end—from native mobile applications and backend services to subscriptions, entitlements, and releases.

Engineers are not separated strictly by platform. Team members move between Kotlin, Swift, and backend development depending on the needs of the product. Our client is particularly interested in someone with deep Kotlin and Android expertise who has demonstrated the ability and desire to work across technical boundaries.

You do not need equal expertise across Android and iOS today. However, this opportunity is best suited for an engineer who wants to expand their ownership across both platforms rather than remain focused exclusively on one mobile ecosystem.

In this role, you will deliver features across multiple applications, own releases, influence architecture, and help raise the team’s overall engineering standards. The team actively uses AI-assisted development tools, and you will help determine where these tools create value while establishing the safeguards needed to use them responsibly.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and release features across Android and iOS applications, including any supporting backend changes
• Own releases from initial preparation through app-store deployment across both platforms
• Improve release automation to reduce manual effort and identify potential issues before deployment
• Build automated tests, instrumentation, and review processes that allow a small team to maintain a high quality bar
• Lead architectural decisions across the mobile codebases and guide those changes through adoption
• Partner with product and design teams to evaluate priorities and determine the best solutions to pursue
• Work across APIs, subscriptions, entitlements, analytics, and other services supporting the mobile experience
• Use AI coding tools where they create meaningful leverage and improve the workflows and guardrails surrounding their use

What We’re Looking For

• Strong professional experience developing Android applications with Kotlin
• Demonstrated Kotlin Multiplatform experience in production applications, including shipping shared KMP code or defining appropriate boundaries for shared functionality
• Recent experience delivering production code outside your primary mobile platform, such as iOS, backend, or web development
• Experience shipping production applications on both Android and iOS is strongly preferred
• Experience leading a significant mobile architecture or platform change from initial proposal through team adoption
• Ability to work comfortably with the services behind a mobile application, including APIs, entitlements, subscriptions, and analytics
• A strong commitment to quality, with automation used to address repeatable failure points and physical-device testing used where appropriate
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools in professional development workflows
• Ability to evaluate AI-generated output, separate planning from execution, and establish appropriate review standards
• Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to create effective pull requests, technical documentation, and design proposals
• Sound judgment when balancing delivery speed, maintainability, and product quality

• Experience with Compose Multiplatform
• Experience building integrations with native mobile operating-system capabilities
• Experience developing companion applications or experiences across multiple device types
• Experience with mobile subscription and in-app purchase platforms
• Experience with mobile CI/CD, deployment automation, and release-management tooling
