Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Azure Cloud Automation Engineer to support a large enterprise Cloud Operations organization. This role will help the team move beyond manually resolving repetitive cloud tickets by identifying recurring problems and building scalable, automated solutions.

The ideal candidate combines deep Azure infrastructure knowledge with strong Terraform and automation experience. You should understand not only individual Azure services, but also how networking, identity, security, monitoring, and third-party platforms connect within a complex enterprise environment.

This is an opportunity to help establish cloud standards, reusable patterns, and automation that improve how internal application teams request, provision, and manage cloud services.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Automation

  • Identify recurring Cloud Operations requests and develop automated, reusable solutions.
  • Build automation for high-volume operational needs, including:
    • Certificate provisioning and renewal
    • SaaS token rotation
    • Federated authentication
    • Cloud resource provisioning
    • Application landing zones
    • Access, identity, and secrets-management workflows
  • Replace manual, ticket-driven processes with repeatable infrastructure and self-service capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain reusable Terraform modules that enforce security, governance, and architectural standards.
  • Build integrations between Azure and enterprise platforms such as CyberArk, Dynatrace, ServiceNow, and other third-party systems.

Azure Infrastructure and Architecture

  • Design, build, and support secure Azure infrastructure in a large enterprise environment.
  • Understand how Azure services connect across networking, identity, security, monitoring, and application infrastructure.
  • Support Azure networking components, including:
    • VNets and private networking
    • Private Endpoints
    • VNet peering
    • DNS
    • ExpressRoute
    • Network security and segmentation
  • Help define and automate standardized Azure landing zones and deployment patterns.
  • Ensure cloud environments are secure, resilient, scalable, and production-ready.

Cloud Operations

  • Investigate and resolve a wide variety of Cloud Operations issues and requests.
  • Determine ownership and next steps when requests span multiple systems or teams.
  • Look beyond the immediate issue to identify opportunities for long-term automation and process improvement.
  • Take ownership of loosely defined problems and drive them through resolution.
  • Create clear documentation, runbooks, and reusable operational standards.

Monitoring and Enterprise Integrations

  • Support the organization's continued modernization and consolidation of its monitoring environment.
  • Integrate cloud infrastructure and automation with monitoring, telemetry, ITSM, and security platforms.
  • Support evolving ServiceNow workflows and service-management processes.
  • Work across multiple enterprise monitoring and observability platforms.

Collaboration and Team Enablement

  • Partner with Cloud Operations, application, security, networking, platform, and developer-experience teams.
  • Help application teams understand and adopt approved cloud standards and patterns.
  • Contribute to the continued technical growth and modernization of the Cloud Operations organization.
  • Work effectively in an environment where standards, ownership boundaries, and operating models are still evolving.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or Cloud Operations.
  • Strong production experience with Microsoft Azure in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Advanced Terraform experience, including:
    • Reusable module development
    • Remote state management
    • Dependency management
    • Policy enforcement
    • Enterprise infrastructure standards
  • Demonstrated experience automating cloud operations and eliminating repetitive manual work.
  • Strong understanding of Azure networking, including VNets, private endpoints, peering, DNS, routing, and network isolation.
  • Experience with Azure identity and security, including RBAC, managed identities, Key Vault, federated authentication, and secrets management.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or a comparable platform.
  • Ability to understand dependencies across cloud infrastructure, enterprise security systems, monitoring tools, and IT service-management platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort working through ambiguous problems involving multiple teams or systems.
  • A proactive, curious approach with a demonstrated ability to take ownership without waiting for step-by-step direction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating cloud automation with enterprise security, observability, and ITSM platforms such as CyberArk, Dynatrace, and ServiceNow.
  • Experience automating certificate management, credential rotation, or federated authentication.
  • Experience designing or implementing Azure landing zones.
  • Familiarity with Azure Policy, policy-as-code, and cloud governance frameworks.
  • Experience with Python, PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar automation tools.
  • Exposure to GCP or another public cloud platform.
  • Experience supporting an internal cloud platform or enterprise Cloud Operations team.
  • Relevant Azure or Terraform certifications.

What Success Looks Like

The successful engineer will do more than close tickets. This person will recognize patterns across incoming requests, determine why the work is recurring, and build automation that prevents the same manual work from continuing.

Success requires technical depth, curiosity, ownership, and the ability to navigate ambiguity while the organization continues to establish and mature its cloud standards and operating model.

What This Role Is

  • A hands-on engineering and automation role
  • Focused on Azure infrastructure, Terraform, and Cloud Operations
  • An opportunity to create reusable standards and automation
  • A role requiring ownership across interconnected systems

What This Role Is Not

  • A ticket-fulfillment-only position
  • An architecture-only or strategy-only role
  • A project or product management role
  • A position where solutions are designed and handed off to another team to implement

Additional Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to work Pacific Time business hours.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a fast-moving enterprise environment where cloud standards and responsibilities continue to evolve.
