Mobile Test Automation Engineer (Contract)

Overview

A fast-moving digital product organization is seeking a Mobile Test Automation Engineer to help improve the quality, scalability, and reliability of mobile application testing across customer-facing platforms.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving messy technical problems, building practical automation solutions, and operating in highly collaborative environments where priorities evolve quickly.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, adaptable, technically curious, and comfortable leveraging modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and improve mobile testing workflows and automation solutions
• Support testing efforts across iOS and Android applications
• Troubleshoot mobile application issues across devices, environments, and builds
• Create repeatable test processes and scalable automation approaches
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and support teams to improve release quality
• Develop proof-of-concept automation and testing solutions quickly
• Document testing coverage, blockers, and technical findings clearly
• Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate debugging, scripting, and documentation workflows

Required Qualifications

• Experience testing mobile applications manually and/or through automation
• Understanding of mobile application ecosystems, including builds, environments, simulators, and emulators
• Experience with modern mobile testing tools such as Appium, Maestro, BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, or similar platforms
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently with limited direction
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable using AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, or similar technologies to improve development and testing workflows

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Playwright or other modern automation frameworks
• JavaScript or TypeScript experience
• CI/CD pipeline experience
• Exposure to web automation testing
• Experience working with customer-facing applications
• Familiarity with authentication, checkout, transactional, or high-volume user flows
• SQL or test data management experience
