Head of Product
Head of Product
Location: Hybrid, Seattle, WA
Industry: Accounting Technology / SaaS / Fintech
Reports To: CEO
Base Salary: $150,000–$190,000
About the Company
Our client is an early-stage, funded accounting technology company rebuilding the operating system for one of the world's largest industries.
Accounting touches every business, but much of the software supporting the profession was built for another era. The company is creating a modern platform that brings together the general ledger, practice management, payroll, automation, and AI, giving accounting firms a dramatically better way to operate and scale.
The company is growing quickly and already working with global partners and ambitious accounting firms that believe the industry is ready for something different.
Joining now means helping shape the product and company while the opportunity is still wide open, with meaningful ownership, growth, and upside.
The Opportunity
Our client is hiring a highly technical Head of Product to lead product strategy, discovery, and execution across a complex and rapidly evolving SaaS platform.
The engineering organization includes multiple development teams working across numerous products, features, integrations, client requests, and technical initiatives. Strong technical leads drive architecture and development, including leads supporting offshore engineering teams. What the company needs now is a senior product leader who can create clarity across all of that work, connect Product, Engineering, QA, Support, Accounting Operations, and company leadership, and take ownership of what gets built and why.
You'll work directly with accounting firms to deeply understand how they operate, where their workflows break down, and what opportunities exist to fundamentally improve the way they work. This isn't just about gathering feature requests or responding to customer feedback. The company needs someone who can recognize problems customers may not know how to articulate, identify opportunities they haven't thought to ask for, and help shape a product vision that moves the industry forward.
You'll take a constant stream of customer feedback, feature requests, bugs, operational needs, technical considerations, and company priorities and turn them into clearly scoped and sequenced engineering work. You'll collaborate closely with engineers to understand complexity and tradeoffs, establish priorities, drive roadmapping and planning, run standups and processes, surface blockers, and keep teams communicating and moving toward release.
Importantly, your ownership doesn't end when a feature ships. You'll be responsible for understanding whether what was built actually solved the intended problem, how customers are using it, and what should be learned or changed as a result.
The company has strong engineering leads responsible for technical architecture and engineering leadership. This role requires enough technical depth to collaborate credibly with those engineers, understand architecture and dependencies, ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and translate complex business needs into actionable technical requirements.
This is an early-stage company transforming an industry that remains highly manual. Problems won't always arrive neatly defined. Priorities will change, information will be incomplete, and there won't always be an established process to follow. The company needs someone energized by that environment who can bring structure to ambiguity, think strategically about where the product should go, and take ownership without waiting for someone else to define the path.

Establish clear priorities across competing roadmap initiatives, bugs, client commitments, platform investments, and operational needs.
-
Own and continuously refine the product roadmap based on business priorities, customer insights, engineering capacity, and technical considerations.
-
Proactively identify and prioritize new product opportunities rather than relying solely on incoming customer requests or leadership direction.
-
Scope complex projects, define requirements and acceptance criteria, and break ambiguous initiatives into manageable phases.
-
Work with engineering leads to understand level of effort, dependencies, and tradeoffs before committing resources.
-
Ensure engineering capacity remains aligned with the company's most important business and customer priorities.
-
Balance immediate customer needs with longer-term product and platform investments.
Product Outcomes & Continuous Improvement
-
Own product outcomes beyond delivery, ensuring shipped features solve meaningful customer problems and contribute to business objectives.
-
Establish clear success criteria for major product initiatives and evaluate whether those objectives are achieved after release.
-
Work directly with customers to understand how new capabilities are being adopted, where friction remains, and whether the intended value is being realized.
-
Use customer feedback, product usage, and business outcomes to inform future iterations and roadmap decisions.
-
Recognize when a feature or product initiative isn't delivering the expected results and take ownership of determining what needs to change.
-
Build a product culture focused not just on shipping features, but on delivering meaningful improvements to the customer experience and business.
Product Execution & Process
-
Establish and drive effective operating rhythms across Product and Engineering, including planning, standups, prioritization, handoffs, and release coordination.
-
Drive clear communication across engineering teams, including distributed and offshore teams, so priorities, ownership, dependencies, and expectations are understood.
-
Stay close to active work, identifying blockers, dependencies, or changing requirements early and helping teams resolve them.
-
Create visibility into what is being worked on, why it matters, where it stands, and what could prevent successful delivery.
-
Improve product and engineering processes where needed without introducing unnecessary process or bureaucracy.
-
Help bring structure and predictability to an environment where priorities and requirements will continue to evolve.
-
Ensure teams understand not only what they're building, but the customer problem and business objective behind the work.
Cross-Functional Leadership
-
Work directly with the CEO and leadership team to translate company strategy into product and engineering priorities.
-
Partner closely with Engineering and QA to ensure requirements are technically informed, clearly defined, appropriately scoped, and thoroughly tested.
-
Work with Support and Accounting Operations to understand customer workflows, pain points, bugs, and opportunities for product improvement.

Facilitate decisions when competing business, customer, and technical priorities require tradeoffs.
-
Ensure information flows effectively between technical and non-technical teams.
-
Help establish a shared understanding of product priorities, customer value, and success across the organization.

-
Excellent communication skills and the ability to create clarity between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Genuine energy and enthusiasm for building products, solving difficult problems, and operating in an early-stage environment.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience working at an early-stage or high-growth technology company.
