Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to support and modernize a portfolio of business-critical applications. This is a hands-on role combining software development, architecture, technical assessment, and knowledge transfer.

The ideal candidate can independently evaluate existing codebases, identify technical debt and security concerns, establish modernization priorities, and drive improvements with limited oversight. Approximately 75% of the role will focus on coding and architecture, with the remaining 25% dedicated to documentation and knowledge transfer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and modernize business-critical applications using .NET, Angular, and Azure.
  • Assess legacy applications and recommend practical modernization strategies.
  • Identify and remediate technical debt, security vulnerabilities, and architectural risks.
  • Design and implement scalable, cloud-native solutions.
  • Improve automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and deployment practices.
  • Create application roadmaps and prioritize technical improvements.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and support knowledge-transfer initiatives.
  • Collaborate directly with business stakeholders, product owners, and technical team members.
  • Take ownership of projects and independently drive work from assessment through delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong professional experience developing applications with .NET.
  • Experience supporting or modernizing legacy .NET environments, including older frameworks such as .NET 3.5.
  • Hands-on Angular development experience, including familiarity with earlier Angular versions.
  • Experience building cloud-native solutions in Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, Azure Functions, and modern deployment practices.
  • Demonstrated experience assessing and modernizing legacy applications.
  • Ability to identify technical debt, security risks, and architectural improvement opportunities.
  • Strong technical documentation and knowledge-transfer skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
  • Ability to operate independently in environments without a fully defined backlog or dedicated product owner.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will combine strong technical ability with ownership, initiative, and sound judgment. This person should be comfortable entering an established environment, creating structure where needed, and moving complex technical initiatives forward with minimal direction.
